Dutch B1 course
Do you already have A2-level Dutch and want to speak with more confidence? The Advanced Dutch Course at Taalthuis helps you move from simple conversations to more independent use of Dutch.
This course is divided into Part 1 and Part 2. Each part has 14 lessons. To work towards full B1 level, you need to complete both parts.
What will you learn during this advanced Dutch course?
In the B1 Dutch course, you expand your vocabulary and learn to express yourself more clearly in Dutch. You work on pronunciation, accent, intonation, grammar, spelling and sentence structure.
The focus is on speaking and understanding Dutch in real situations. You practise through current topics, stories, games, listening exercises, speaking activities and short writing assignments. Topics include news, art, culture and literature.

- Structure: Part 1 and Part 2
- Duration: 14 lessons per part

- Study load: about 8.5 hours per week. Homework: about 6 hours per week
- Group size: max. 12 students in class, 10 online

- Optional: online grammar module
At the end of the course, you take a Taalthuis exam with written and spoken components. If you attend at least 80% of the lessons, you receive a certificate of attendance and your exam result.
Course materials
For this level, Taalthuis uses Nederlands in Actie by Coutinho. In Part 1, you work with chapters 1-4. In Part 2, you work with chapters 5-7.

This course is suitable if you have completed Intermediate A1-A2, Beginners Plus A0-A2 or already have A2-level Dutch.
New students should do a level check before signing up. For Part 1, the intake level is A2. For Part 2, the intake level is B1.1.
